Jacksonville, FL Employment
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Jacksonville, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area has an unemployment rate of 11.6% (as number 314 on the list). This is from data that was collected November 2010 - the last month with accurate numbers. What does this mean for everyone looking to work around the city? The answer is a little complicated.
I know this is the last thing anyone who is looking for a job wants to see - but 11.6% is significantly higher than the national average for the U.S. in regards to unemployment. That means that it is that much more difficult to get a job - but not impossible. What can you do during these trying times? The first thing to do is stay positive. Even if you have been out of work for months - you have to understand there are others - thousands of them (perhaps even millions) who are in the same boat. Your positive attitude can be the thing that sets you apart. Make sure to approach each job opportunity with a smile - it really can make a difference.
Second, make sure you let everyone know you are looking and keep applying whenever you can. I like to think of searching for jobs sort of like the lottery - the more tickets you put in the better your chances of winning. We all want that jackpot, right?
Last, while you are pounding the pavement with a smile and letting everyone know you are looking for work, it is a good idea to do a little good at the same time. If you think about it, even though you might be a little down - there is always someone who is worse off. Perhaps if you did a little volunteer work - your whole outlook could change. Not only will you be doing some serious good by volunteering but it will give you experience and networks that could help you find that perfect job - so everyone wins!Need a place to start?
